Dropped D beer rock riff

Yesterday I tune my low E string to D and played an acoustic riff on the distorted guitar. Classic rock, you can smell the beer and see the 60 year old fat bikers with long grey hair. It is played through the standard ipad's Garage Band Amp Sim, nothing else. Doesn't sound bad for a software amp! Some alternative

Alternative started as an alternative to mainstream. Thats where the names comes from. Later it became a mainstream, so the meaning is lost. Alternative to what?
